The story
behind the Stand.
For ten years, I was out in the field working on the tools in the arboriculture industry, before stepping up and spending over five years as a Project Manager running those same operations. Alongside that, I spent another decade immersed in hospitality in every form imaginable: working as a hotel porter, bartender, cook, tour guide, and co-manager.
I know what it means to work hard, face-to-face with people, balancing safety, tight logistics, and client satisfaction.
But when I moved from working on the tools to project managing the jobs, I hit a brutal wall between the field and the office. I spent my days on the road doing site visits and quoting, missing critical phone calls and emails, only to sit at my desk at 6:00 PM spending hours trying to catch up on spreadsheets, duplicate data entry, and planning the upcoming week.
I thought I just had to "embrace the suck." I thought that was just the price you paid for managing crews from the cab of a ute.
It doesn't have to be that way.
I left that world to upskill, deep-diving into the rapid evolution of AI agents, LLMs, and workflow automation. What I discovered shook me: tasks that used to take me half a day of tedious administrative grinding can now be executed flawlessly in seconds by a trained digital workflow.
I founded Tawhai Stand because I wished someone had stepped in years ago to show me an easier way. Whether you are a corporate founder trying to break past a growth roadblock, a Project Manager drowning in spreadsheets, or a stay-at-home mum looking for a bespoke, personal app to help stay focused during the day and feel less isolated. if there is a part of your day that sucks, we are here to talk and build the system that fixes it.
What is a Tawhai Stand?
In New Zealand forests, the tawhai (beech tree) forms an interconnected ecosystem where separate trees share a root structure to balance weight, weather storms, and grow stronger together. A stand is the forester's word for a group of trees growing together as one community, so a tawhai stand is exactly that: many beeches, standing together, rooted as one.
As an arborist, the tawhai was always my favorite tree to work around. But it was driving through Fiordland National Park as a tour guide, seeing them in their absolute glory, that I was completely struck by their resilience and structure. We named our company after this system. Tawhai Stand represents modular, interconnected capability built to give your business that exact same long-term strength.
